Just a re-cap: Bucharest does have some interesting things to see; but it is a huge, sprawling place so quite difficult to get around unless you do the old 'open top bus tour' which is quite difficult to find I'm told. The Old Historical Center seems the favourite place to go.  Unfortunately, although most of the places to see have a certain oppulence this is in direct contrast to the absolute squalor of nearby buildings and so is quite sad to see.
